“I am CAL” Video Contest

Attention all College of Arts and Letters Students!  The Creativity Exploratory has a video contest where you could win a Kindle e-reader, and all you have to do is share your CAL story. Create a video that demonstrates what makes you College of Arts and Letters, whether it is classes, your extracurricular activities, your job, or anything, go ahead and make it into video format in the most fun and creative way possible.

Once you have made a draft of your video, bring it to us at The Writing Center! We can help you with more than just writing, we can look over your video and offer our feedback and advice on what you can do to win that e-reader. Plus, we are always here to help brainstorm. So even if you are having trouble coming up with an awesome idea that will demonstrate what makes you CAL, come on in and talk through your ideas with us. We’re happy to help.

And then after you have finished your final product, upload your video to Youtube and email the link to iamcalcontest@gmail.com by December 3.  Your video will then be posted on the I Am CAL Facebook page and if your video receives the most likes by December 7, YOU WIN!!

Finding Us at the BCC

Do you want to make a Writing Center appointment in the BCC? Did you hear about the staff there, and the cozy space, but have no idea how to find the location?  Here are step by step directions on how to find us.

We are located next to the Business school, the western wing is the Lear Business Center.  Go in the doors and down the hall to the first main hall on your right hand side.  About 75 feet down the hall is an elevator on your left. The elevator has a sign “The Place”.  Go in the elevator, press the “G” floor, and we are there for you!

Career Gallery at the Breslin Center

MSU Career Gallery 2012 logo

Time to pull out the resume. MSU’s annual Career Gallery is coming October 3rd and 4th.  They have over 250, yes I did say 250, employers coming.  It is so big only the Breslin Center could hold it.  The time is 2-6 pm.  On Wednesday the focus is Science, Engineering and Technology careers; on Thursday it is Business majors.  Even if you are not in the job market yet, it is a great idea to stop over and see what employers are looking for!

Remember, at The Writing Center we can help with cover letters, resumes and CVs. Many students come to the Business Communication Center (BCC) satellite to work on preparing those important documents for both jobs and internships.  Make an appointment soon to come and visit us.

The MSU Union location is a great place to come if you live in West Circle, or after you stop into the “original” Biggby and grab a cup of coffee. The MSU Union location is open 5pm-10pm on Sundays and 6:30pm-10pm Monday through Wednesday.

Graduate students, International Students, Lyman-Briggs students, and all kinds of students alike are welcome to check out this new location on Sunday from 5pm-10pm, Monday from 2pm-9pm, or Tuesday and Wednesday 6pm-9pm

New Floor….New Writing Center (almost)

A few week ago the Writing Center at Bessey Hall was closed for two days as we had new flooring installed in our high traffic areas. While everything was moved around our faithful and multi-talented writing consultants cleaned and scrubbed. Then everything was moved back, but thoughtfully transformed. You can see the difference even as you come in to the center. The registration desk is moved for better access and flow. We want you to feel welcomed from the first moment you get here.
