The Plagiarism workshop defines plagiarism and allows students to become familiar with different types, showing them how to properly refrain from and correct instances of it through citation and proper academic conversation.

- First off, we'll explain to you who we are and what we do at the writing center.
What is Plagiarism?
- Now, we'll invite you to write.
- We'll ask you to break into groups to define plagiarism.
- Then, we'll show you some different perspectives on plagiarism and academic honesty
- Lastly, we'll take a few scenarios into question and ask you to think about what you think is plagriarism, and what you think is not.
Information
- First, we'll talk about academic honesty and belonging to a community of scholars
- Second, we'll talk about citations: why and how to use them.
- Third, we'll return to plagiarism, focusing on
- Intentional plagiarism
- Unintentional plagiarism
- Fourth, we'll discuss incorporating research into your writing.
- Integrating quotes
- Paraphrasing and summarizing
Collaborative work
- At this point, we'll give you a worksheet with instances of correctly and incorrectly cited material.
- We'll ask you to think about what is incorrect about the integrations.
- We'll aslo ask you to provide possible solutions, so as to correct the problem.
- Finally, we'll think about the severity of the cases, and whether intentional or unintentional plagiarism can be worse, given the loose definition of plagiarism itself.
