Write fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, or drama? Then you've ventured out into the exciting realm of creative writing; an imaginative way of expressing ideas, thoughts, emotions, etc. through writing, as opposed to expository writing, which follows a logical, linear point by point argument towards building understanding in the academic world.
What we offer creative writers
Here at the Writing Center we offer one-on-one consultations where you sit down with a consultant to talk through your writing and your process (and we're not talking about a grammar fix-it shop) for all sorts of writing (including creative writing). You work with trained consultants who have many different resources available at their disposal, including books on improving writing and handouts on writing tips and tricks and about the different genres. Consultants are trained to work with writers at any stage of the writing process (brainstorming, first draft, polishing final draft, etc.), and also in working with creative writing pieces specifically. There are even consultants who are creative writing majors.
How to find the right consultant
To find consultants particularly interested in working with creative writing, simply register and go to make and appointment, then click on their name and read their bio, which will say what types of writing in which they are interested in collaborating on with students. You can expect the same attention and focus you would get from a standard one-on-one consultation, just geared towards your creative writing piece. Just imagine, an audience giving you individualized, personal attention for 50 whole minutes! Just bring in your creative writing piece and any questions or concerns you might have and we'll work on perfecting your craft!
