- Monday – Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
- Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
In-Person Hours and Locations
Bessey Hall Room 300
- Monday – Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The Writing Center in Bessey Hall is located on the north end of the third floor. This is the hub of The Writing Center, where most of our in-person consultations happen.
Main Library Third Floor West
- Sunday – Thursday, 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The Writing Center in the Library is located in the center of campus, on the 3rd floor of the Library’s West wing, directly (slightly to the right) across from the elevator. There will be a lot of tables, usually each with a consultant. If you arrive early for your appointment, you can find a comfortable seat to wait or grab something to drink from the Sparty’s Cyber Cafe on the first floor.
Multimedia Writing Center (Library, Second Floor West)
- Thursday, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Need help with a digital or multimedia project like a PowerPoint presentation, poster, website, video, or podcast? We can help! Stop by the newest Writing Center location in the Digital Scholarship Lab. This location is located within the MSU Main Library, on the second floor of the West wing. Look for the Digital Scholarship Lab signs! This is not the Hollander MakeCentral space where you can print things; the DSL is just around the corner with lots of glass windows and cool technology.
Brody Hall, Room 159
- Monday – Thursday, 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The Writing Center in Brody Hall is in the Engagement Center in the northeast corner of the building. Walk past the Engagement Center desk and office, then turn right. If you hit the printer, you’ve gone too far. It’s the room with frosted glass windows, a big table with a lot of chairs, and a Writing Center decal by the door.
Holden Hall, Room C124
- Monday – Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The Writing Center in Holden Hall is located in the center of South Neighborhood. This location is convenient to Wilson, Wonders, and Case Halls, as well as Spartan Village, but is open to all students. If you enter Holden Hall from the east wing, closer to the tennis courts, keep walking past Sparty’s and through the engagement center, past the front desk and advisors’ offices. Go through the door with the glass window inside it, you should see a study lounge that has a glass-walled room inside it. We’re located in the glass-walled fishbowl room – come on in!
Online Hours and Modalities
Google Doc & Zoom
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Sunday, varied hours (depending on consultant availability)
Google Doc and Zoom consultations are our two modalities for synchronous online consulting.
For a Google Doc session, your consultant will send you a link to a Google Doc where you will paste your writing. Then, you and your consultant will work together to review your documents, interacting through the chat, comments, and the suggesting feature.
For a Zoom session, your consultant will email you links for a Zoom room and a Google Doc. From there, you and your consultant can use the various features of Zoom and Google Doc in whatever way will best help you with your writing. This could include screen sharing documents, resources, etc.
Asynchronous
- Monday – Thursday, varying times based on consultant availability
Our asynchronous consulting is our newest service. You will schedule an appointment just like any of ours but fill out a more in-depth in-take form to tell your consultant what you’d like them to work on during the session. The consultant will read your work during the time you scheduled and fill out the asynchronous consulting form to provide feedback, which will then be sent to you.
These appointments are not in real time, meaning you will not be sent a link or interact directly with your consultant during the time you scheduled. If that is what you want, we recommend you look into booking a Google Doc or Zoom session.
