"The workshop offers so many things to benefit people in all
stages of the dissertation process. Suggestions from the workshop
have infiltrated almost every aspect of the process for me.... from
software that is available to smooth and speed the writing to techniques
for conflict resolution (and preventing conflict) on committees,
the workshop covered it all. A great strength of the workshop is
the discussion format. Input comes not only from the creators of
the workshop, but also from the other people who are taking it.
I think that the biggest strength of the workshop is the opportunity
to interact with and learn from people that are going through the
same things that you are. Participants are provided the opportunity
to learn from the success (and failures) of their peers in a safe
and comfortable environment."

"The workshop was a great success for me because
of the expertise in facilitation by the workshop leaders. The group
dynamics could have been difficult because of the extreme diversity
of programs represented. Yet, with the help of the facilitators,
the input and feedback provided by everyone was most often insightful
and helpful. I particularly enjoyed hearing from the student graduate
on experiences that had transpired. However, I also found it helpful
to hear the experiences of students at various stages of the process.
I obtained a great deal of additional suggestions for dealing with
perceived barriers in my own program and feel ready to move forward
in my ventures. Thank you for providing such an enjoyable and useful
workshop."

"To me the most important aspect of the workshop
was to listen to others talk about the process, for many reasons.
First, because we were all at different stages, we could see ourselves
at different points on the continuum, and therefore, could feel
good about what we have accomplished so far, as well as look forward
to finishing, as others have. Second, the workshop allowed us to
share in a way that made you feel that you were giving and taking
at the same time, and that was the reason for being there. And last
but not least, I appreciated the great tips for making your life
easier (not just with writing but with all that comes with this
process)."
Sixth-year Ph.D. student, Mathematics
The workshop gave me the tools I needed to feel confident
and competent upon entering the dissertation process following a
long hiatus from formal graduate education. It was structured as
a cooperative learning experience with doctoral students across
many disciplines and at various stages in the dissertation writing
process. Both the small group and large group discussions allowed
individuals the freedom to express their anxieties, fears and triumphs.
I was encouraged knowing that my experience was "universal."
