Letter

We are writing a letter to a Grimm, who we read an article by in class. The article was very interesting because it provides a view of writing centers that we had not really took into consideration before. This is the idea that writing centers can actually be counter productive in the ways that they function.

For example, if a writing center is forcing writers to conform to the rules and regulations of the University or professor, then it may not be the supportive system it was originally intended to be. It may, instead, function only as an extension of the classroom.

We decided to write this letter in the form of questions to the author about changes that may or may not have taken place in the 13 years since the article was published. We feel that factors such as technology and globalization of culture have affected the writing center, and we want to hear more on her opinion about these changes.

We also feel that the writing center here at MSU may do a better job at working for the students rather than the faculty than many other Universities. We are also hoping to hear her take on this idea and where she feels we are compared to the ideal that she had in mind when writing the aritcle.

It is a rare opportunity to be able to contact a writer directly to ask them questions about their work, and I think that this will really aid us in our understanding of the material.
