Comic Life workshop

The Comic Life workshop is designed to get students thinking about visual storytelling, particularly with comics.  The idea is to show how stories can be communicated in many different ways, and that writing does not have to take place simply with pen/paper or a keyboard.  Students will get the opportunity to develop a short comic of their own.

Introduction

  • We'll start off with a quick introduction of the presenters and the writing center itself.

Comics

  • Then, we'll talk about what comics are.
    • Sequential art
    • A form of storytelling
  • Next, we'll talk about how comics relate to other forms of art, like movies or written narratives.
  • Then, we'll eplain some basic comic terms:
    • Panel
    • Gutter
    • Text box
    • Word balloon
    • Thought balloon
  • Finally, we'll talk about panel layout and progression.

Using Comic Life

  • For the rest of the workshop, we'll give you the basics on on how to use Comic Life, and ask you to make a short comic of your own.
